Gotham City Chic: Thom Browne — FW 22/23

If you’re going to wear a suit, then it might as well be a Thom Browne!

It’s been a while since I’ve written about a show but, this one gives me that familiar rush that I haven’t felt in quite a while! I’m giddy!

The whimsy! The pattern play! The tailoring, the layering, the clean lines, the silhouettes!! THE PLEATING!!! THAT FUCKING CAPE!!!!! Had I been at this show (one day!) I would’ve wept! Or at the bare minimum clutched my pearls and gasped obnoxiously! There are so many pieces that I’d love to have in my closet!

It’s the color choices and striping mixed with the gray suiting! It’s the fact that there’s nary a flat in sight! I love the striped socks sometimes playfully peeking from above the wedged heels. Even some of the avant-garde looks (like the baseball-shaped cable knit sweater and the oversized bow look that succeeds it) seem somewhat wearable to me.

There’s something Bat-manic about this collection. Think Batman Returns: The darkness that Tim Burton brings coupled with the suspiciously ominous Christmas-y, Danny Elfman-esque music. Those, combined with the colorful makeup in geometric shapes, top hats, and spirited stripes seem to be referential of Penguin’s minions.

I keep coming back to the playfulness of this collection. For me, suits are so serious but…"why so serious?!”

Browne makes suits fun! There are teddy bears and toy blocks, fun and unexpected pops of color, and I’m always here for replacing pants with shorts!

I’m so enamored by this collection and Browne’s aesthetic that I’m seriously considering buying a suit for an event later this year…
