Balmain FW20

It’s the drama for me! It’s the drapes and capes for me! It’s the breaking the rules and not giving a damn for me! Sure, let’s wear two different earrings, big ass earrings or just one big ass earring and throw in some contrasting colors – it’s 2020! Might as well!

The Fall and Winter seasons are what I live for! The weather is comfortable (I’d much rather be cool/cold than hot!) and it’s when your personal style can truly shine since there are more opportunities to layer and add as many personal touches to your look as you like.

Remember a few posts ago when I was talking about having those fashion “moments?” Well, that’s what happened as I watched the Balmain FW20 shows. Honestly, my mouth was agape from start to finish. I watch a lot of fashion videos and collections to find inspiration and sometimes it’s just pretty clothes walking a runway – the YSL FW20 show, for example. However, one Mr. Olivier Rousteing has not moved, but shoved me (I literally toppled over a bit in my bed) with his women’s collection. The men’s line is also a sight, but I’ll talk about that one next week. The proportions are everything! The lines are everything! The silhouettes are everything! The quilting is everything! And the coats and capes are EVERYTHING!! I love the oversized blazers and buttons and lapels that go on forever. There’s a prominent 80’s callback with the gathered boots and strong shoulders, among other details. Some of the looks were very Dynasty, very Dominique Deveraux! There are power suits with the signature pronounced shoulders that the 80’s are infamous for. While many of the looks have an unmistakably retro style, others feature an equestrian-hunting feel: Thigh high boots with accompanying capes and opera-length gloves, enormous lobster claw buckles, the quilted pieces, etc.  In fact, I rather like the jet-setting that this collection does. One moment you’re a huntress in the forests of…wherever huntresses hunt, the next you’re power-walking to your office in New York, and the next you’re sipping on a spiked latte in Aspen.

I’ve never wanted to wear women’s clothes as much as I did whilst watching this show. I get this collection and I understand this lady. She’s bold and isn’t afraid to stand out. In fact, she wants to. She’s the center of attention and isn’t coy about it, which can probably be said about the Balmain customer in general. Check out the collection and let me know what you think.
