Shut up & Take My Money!: Savage X Fenty Vol. 2
Thankfully, herbal supplements were flowing through my system when I first saw clips of the Savage X Fenty show. I needed it to fully feel and process what was happening before mine eyes. Shea Coulee, Demi Moore, Indya Moore, Soouiz…basically, Rihanna is coming for ALL OF THE COINS and I’m not mad!! There is something so exciting and surprising about seeing such a hodgepodge of people in one work, and I’m glad that more artists are doing that. (Although, Cardi & Meghan really could’ve left Kylie out of that video…) But I digress. I want every fashion house, corporation and even the mom & pop stores to take note: This is how you do diversity and inclusion!
Obviously, body positivity has been a thing for quite a while and it’s refreshing to see more and more real bodies being shown and represented in fashion. For fashion in general, but especially in lingerie, it’s so important to include everyone. Who doesn’t like feeling sexy and wanted and hot?! Whether it’s for that nigga that hits it right every damn time or just for yourself (every now and then I do throw on a jock just for me;) there’s agency and freedom in loving your body, owning your sexuality and not being ashamed of it. Sexuality & sexual expression is part of the human condition. Seeing trans people, drag queens, queer folks, and bodies of all types not only being a part of this project, but placed front and center is so beautiful. Too long have there been static images of what “sexy” is, supposedly. For a show & brand like Savage X Fenty and a creative like Rihanna, you have to give up some coins! Unfortunately though, I stupidly went to the site the next day looking for that smoking jacket — It was, of course, sold out. But I got my eye on you, Riri!
